Birds are often the reason an air conditioning unit won't work properly because a birds nest can block proper ventilation and overwork an AC system to the point that it burns out.
Another example of proper air conditioning maintenance is to make sure your air conditioner has enough freon in it. Freon is a main element in how cold your air gets when blowing through your AC system.
If you check your AC Unit for cleanliness, proper storage and obstructions prior to closing it down for the Winter, chances are when you fire it up during the hotter season it will effortlessly start right up.
